- I have the external version of both modems. The Supra is the external
- with the display. What I was wondering is what are people's opinions
- about these two modems when compared against each other.
-
- The PPI seems to have better line control (less random disconnects)
- than does the Supra (the PPI has the new bios 4.3), but it tends to
- connect at 26.4 more frequently than the Supra (which usually gives
- 28.8 connections). Next, the display, although it shows more
- information, does not show the TX speed (it shows the RX and TX
- throughput but not the TX connect speed--you can get this information
- by ati6 but you can't do this during a PPP or SLIP connection). For
- me this is important. However, the modem is somewhat configurable by
- the LCD which the Supra is not. Lastly, the PPI has no flash rom.
-
- As for the Supra, it does show the RX and TX speeds. However it does
- have more random disconnects than does the PPI. Also, from what I've
- seen in magazine reviews, the Supra is slow, especially when compared
- to the PPI. Lastly, the Supra has Silent answer (nice feature, but I
- don't absolutely need it) and flash rom.
-
- Would people give me their opinions about which modem to keep and why?
- Thanks.
